About John Crewe
Born in Altrincham, Cheshire, John was offered a place at Salford Art College, however he decided at that time to pursue his love of sport and subsequently qualified as a PE teacher at Bedford College.
John lives and works in Hurworth-on-Tees, a small picturesque village in Darlington, County Durham. Over the last ten years John has re-discovered his passion of drawing & painting and is now a full-time artist.
You will see that the inspiration for many of his seascapes and landscapes is drawn from the natural beauty of the Northumbrian Coast and the Lake District.
The small fishing village of Boulmer has been the Northumbrian base for John in recent years and he has enjoyed examining the boundaries between sky, sea and shore.
In contrast John's life studies and portraits demonstrate his versatility. In these powerful images John is keen to explore the way light falls on the planes of the body or face.
